Rise of Anxiety in the United States
It has so called been claimed that there is a rise of anxiety disorder within young adults and teenagers across the United States. The topic of my choice will be covering the recorded cases of anxiety disorder throughout teenagers nationwide. After extensive research I plan to have an understanding of why this outbreak begins at such a young age. I will be studying the aspects that play a role in this disorder and will be reading about teenagers experience in today’s world that bring them to this point. Investigating the increase of cases throughout the years. Past studies have concluded that there is an epidemic among today’s students and I plan on furthering this study; Having a completed research and understanding of why. Within my research a couple of questions I plan to answer is of what age this emotional stress starts at, is it the freshmen in High School or the juniors who are looking into colleges and taking their SATS? Could it possibly be just the stress of getting accepted into college, does the anxiety ease after senior year or continue? In this proposal I will like to discuss these rising situations, and focus on the matter of what is the big issue that results in these kids losing themselves. An expected outcome from this study is the expectations held for students nowadays, as a student myself, I am in my first year of college and I relate on a personal level to younger teenagers who haven’t even experienced their full 4 years of High school. Students are expected to participate in extracurricular activities including band, sports, clubs, art and so forth; along with that to maintain a high average in class, it has become the new norm to teach kids and scare them of making mistakes. It has been engraved in students minds that college must be a path you take in order for a bright future. College was depicted as this golden ticket to an amazing future but an impossible mission to complete. With this echoing in our minds, us students, go hard on ourselves. Losing sleep, time for ourselves, just to focus on a singular vocabulary test because we believe one 70 can risk our reputation and chance of a good future and guaranteed career. My interest in this topic is because it amazes me how common core and state regulations do such actions and are aware of these ridiculous expectations for students and are well aware of the stress given amongst these teenagers, the main question is what starts this anxiety and when does it end? Out of all the things given to students, what scares them the most? What drives teenagers over the edge? In the future I plan to figure out the main cause and effect of this epidemic. In order to review my proposal and answer my questions, I will be interviewing students myself as a random sample of all ages from freshmen in High School to Seniors in College to gather a true understanding of what school/work/ and life throws at them that feeds them fear. I will also analyze statistics from other studies from years past and the growth of anxiety ridden kids to the comparison of common core expectations each year. Believed limitations I will come across this research is the confusion of what may specifically cause this anxiety for students.
