Summary
In my essay I will be writing about the mencial rise of anxiety within students ranging from the ages of 15-28. Although stress and anxiety has no age limit it has been addressed as a popular outbreak of specific cases of students being diagnosed with anxiety and even depression at a very young age. With this major concern, it has been concluded that schools have been giving high expectations for students that overwhelm the children resulting in several mental illnesses.
Points I plan to cover
At what age does this specifically start and does it get easier when you get older and out of school?
What makes these students stressed, is it college? Is it just the pressure of standardized tests? Is it parents pushing their children too far? Is it academics + sports?
Does waking up early add to this issue? Maybe feeling rushed…?
During younger years, when developing as young toddlers and children does even the easiest years of our schooling affect us? Does pre-k and kindergarten actually plant a seed in our head to hate school?
Data collection
I plan on surveying students from the youngest age of 14 to the oldest age of 21. Ranging from athletes to artists and musicians, different backgrounds, and asking them on their school experiences. Without asking the question “are you stressed?” the obvious answer is yes. BUT, I believe you allow the students to speak freely and they mention it themselves, they are opening up on how they actually feel and although art and clubs and whatever sport maybe fun, is school actually ruining these aspirations?
Reference
I am referring back to a colombia research on the rise of mental illness and am tweaking a bit of the procedure to further their study, but using this to show the accuracy of my results. Having a good background of my paper, will allow me to already be familiar with this issue going on and understanding the underlying aspects that go along with this.
